Shallots and Echalion Harvest
Nature of Work
Grading of Shallots and Echalion
Situation
Standing at a grading line (indoor or outdoor)
Team
Variable, 8-10 people
Duration
Late July - September
Shallots are harvested using a mechanised field harvester, and the shallots are brought back to the farm on trailers.

The trailers are emptied into boxes via our field grading line. This job requires standing on specially built platforms at the grading line as the produce goes past, removing anything that is not a shallot or fit for box storage.

We work to the weather, as what can be harvested always depends on the state of the fields. So some days are shorter and others longer, and you come in prepared to work as many hours as needed to get the job done.

The shallots will then go through further grading and processing prior to packing. At this later stage the shallots are also graded by hand for quality assurance. This part of the process is part of our year round daily production.

The harvest season for shallots and echalion runs from late July to September. If you would like to help bring in the harvest, get in touch today.
